The Musical Stylings of Jack Armstrong
Jack Armstrong, piano
Hello!
Since
first grade, I have played the piano. Up until
the fifth grade, I simply wasn’t that good.
In fact, I actually quit for a year due to lack
of practice or enthusiasm. I had another friend
who played the piano and was simply excellent.
After
he learned that I was giving up at the piano, he
had his mom give me the number of his piano teacher,
Mary Kay Kapustka.
I have an interesting way of playing the piano…If
someone came up to me, played music over a CD, and
told me to learn it on the piano, I could play it
back simply by hearing it a couple of times (after
a few trials and errors). The only real problem
I have is that I can’t read music, no way, no how!
And since there basically aren’t many teachers who
can teach a person with such a disability, I was
having a difficult time learning music.
Now it’s the eighth grade, and I am playing like
I have never played before. I have realized that
Mary Kay completely understands my problem and has
the perfect remedy for my delicate style of learning.
She has patiently taught me to play the piano and
a bit of how to read music (though I didn’t always
learn patiently). Once I started working with her,
I quickly progressed from playing the big note version
of "Star Wars" to playing elegant pieces
such as "Fantasy Impromptu" by Chopin.
I owe my whole "career" of music to my
favorite piano teacher, Ms. Mary Kay Kaputska.
Thank You,
Jack Armstrong

Jack Armstrong came into my life the summer of
1998. The road we traveled together was full of
surprises, rewards, frustrations and new adventures.
I did not have a clue as to what I was doing or
how I was doing it. I didn't even know what 'it'
was. I did know that Jack was a very special person
with a very special way of approaching the piano.
I knew that Jack and I had a very special way of
communicating through the wonderful, mysterious
language of music. We were able to capture the fruits
of our labors on the CD. Now as we both go our separate
ways, we will of course stay in touch and whatever
the future holds for each of us, we will have this
tangible remembrance of the hours we spent together,
enriching each others lives, forging an unbreakable
bond that will last forever because of the miracle
called music!
