LISZT
DIGITAL is
an outgrowth of the focus of the Denver Center for
Liszt Studies,
which is
dedicated to spreading knowledge and appreciation
for Franz Liszt the Abbé,
the man
and his music, to the world. This world,
including both musicians and those who
simply appreciate music, primarily know Franz Liszt
as a keyboard virtuoso but also as
man with somewhat questioned
and
suspect
morals and habits.
Closer
review of the compositions of Liszt composed throughout
his lifetime reveal new
insights into his complex psyche
which reveals a deeply spiritual foundation, evident even
at a very early age. This spirituality weaves its way through
the fabric of his life span.
The recording label, LISZT
DIGITAL, primarily focuses on lesser known compositions
of
Franz Liszt along with his compositions that can have
a special impact on the 21st Century listening public
(i.e.the recording of the TRANSCENDENTAL
ETUDES recorded
by one
of the
true rising stars on the 21st Century Piano Landscape,
Christopher Taylor.) Lesser known
Sacred Choral Works (i.e.
MASSES) of other composers are included. Franz Liszt was
such a towering, dominating, all encompassing,
passionate presence in the Nineteenth Century, his influence
on the unsettled musical
landscape of
the Twenty-first century is active and unmistakable.
Connection of Liszt Digital and Church of
the Holy Ghost
Church of the Holy Ghost in Denver, Colorado, has been blessed with
a strong,
professional
music department which presents in liturgical settings
some of
the
finest music composed
for the Catholic Church intended for use in Sunday
and
Feast Day liturgies. It was easy to
visualize Franz Liszt, the Abbé, actively
participating
in various liturgical celebrations, so
reverently observed.
It is a fitting tribute to
Church of the Holy Ghost for the first release
of LISZT
DIGITAL to be the disc,
" Latin Choral Tradition". LISZT
DIGITAL considers this Rare
Musical Gem to be a
gift to Church of the
Holy Ghost as a gesture of thanksgiving.
The
Creation of the TRILOGY
A groundbreaking concert was presented by the Denver Center for Liszt Studies
March 4,
2001. Années de Pélerinage, Troisième Année was
performed in its entirety by Mary Kay
Kapustka, marking a return to playing
after an absence of several years due to illness. On
the same program, Via
Crucis was performed for the first time in the Denver area with Mary
Kay
Kapustka, piano, and Church of the Holy Ghost Choir and Soloists, Richard
Robertson,
Conductor. The presentation of both of these great works made a powerful
impact on both
the performers and the audience. It is out of this concert experience
that the TRILOGY emerged
a year later. The three discs are planned around the
theme of Pilgrimage. The three discs unfold beautifully as a set but they
are equally stunning individually. The Timeless
Madonna can be
regarded as a Pilgrimage
to Solace; Via Crucis is
a stunning. shocking Pilgrimage to the Cross; Troisième Pèlerinage is a faith filled Pilgrimage
to Resurrection.
As LISZT
DIGITAL Continues with
its focus on Liszt's approaching
200 birthday celebration in 2011, each new project will be tested
to
see if it measures up to these defining statements:
Revealing
Rare Musical Gems For 21st Century Sensibilities
-
Compact Discs for Discerning Connoisseurs.
Following
the lance
that Franz Liszt hurled
far into the future,
not knowing where
it would land . . . .
